Advanced Dry Eye Treatment

Radiofrequency for Dry Eye in Katy, TX

Radiofrequency (RF) uses controlled, gentle heat to restore the meibomian glands and refresh the delicate skin around the eyes. At Carousel Eyecare in Katy, TX, Dr. Caroline Wells uses RF to liquefy stagnant gland oils and stimulate healthier tissue — treating dry eye at its source while smoothing the surrounding skin.

How radiofrequency helps dry eye

Radiofrequency energy warms the deeper layers of tissue around the eyelids in a precise, controlled way. That warmth softens the thick, hardened oils that clog inflamed meibomian glands, making it far easier to express them and restore a healthy oily tear layer.

At the same time, RF stimulates the body's natural collagen production and improves local circulation. Better blood flow supports gland function and reduces the low-grade inflammation that keeps dry eye going.

Gland expression and collagen stimulation

After the tissue is gently warmed, Dr. Wells can perform meibomian gland expression — carefully clearing the softened oils so the glands can once again secrete a healthy lipid layer. This combination of heat and expression is often more effective than warm compresses at home.

The collagen-stimulating effect is a welcome bonus: many patients notice firmer, refreshed skin around the eyes in addition to more comfortable eyes.

What to expect

An RF session is comfortable and typically feels like a warm massage around the eyes. There is generally no downtime, and most patients return to normal activities immediately. Like IPL, RF is usually delivered as a short series with maintenance sessions as needed.

RF is frequently combined with IPL, red light therapy, or the Ocular Surface Reset for faster, more complete relief. Your consultation determines the right plan.
